Today’s Scripture
Isaiah 43:1-4 (New Living Translation)
1 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you.
      O Israel, the one who formed you says,
   “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
      I have called you by name; you are mine.

2 When you go through deep waters,
      I will be with you.
   When you go through rivers of difficulty,
      you will not drown.
   When you walk through the fire of oppression,
      you will not be burned up;
      the flames will not consume you.

3 For I am the Lord, your God,
      the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
   I gave Egypt as a ransom for your freedom;
      I gave Ethiopia
[a] and Seba in your place.

4 Others were given in exchange for you.
      I traded their lives for yours
   because you are precious to me.

      You are honored, and I love you.

Today’s Word
A popular disaster happened in Nigeria, around 2001. The amour storage facility where deadly battle weapons were stored suddenly exploded. There were sounds of blasting of bombs and parts of the bombs, houses, and cars were flying in the air. Many rumors filled the air that Osama Bin Laden had invaded Nigeria and people ran for their lives. After the situation had calmed down, it was discovered that only a few people were actually wounded within the barracks. Though many houses within and around the barracks were destroyed, and hundreds died by the blast, the real horror is that thousands who mistakenly stepped on the unexploded grenades while running were killed. Almost a million people jumped into the canal out of panic. The canal had been there for years but on that fateful day, it seemed as the only short cut, dry land and others never stopped even when they saw their predecessors disappearing into the canal.

The bible says, fear has torment.  We are given an express warning in Isaiah 8:12 “……neither fear their fear nor be afraid.” In Exodus 20:18-19, the fear of death prevented all of the Israelites from talking to God. So they asked Moses to go for them. The fear of barrenness made Sarah to force Abraham to take another wife. The fear of delay made King Saul to sacrifice instead of being obedient. Remember only what Job feared came over him.Fear is the opposite of faith and is brother to doubt.

Fear is a trap. It blinds. It defocuses us from what is obtainable in Christ.  Do not let fear rule over you. Reject your fear; remember whatever God says He will do. And if you have been suffering the consequences of your fear now, just acknowledge God and let him take over now.
